1)Relate what was discussed in class or the text
to the screening.
The
Graduate is one of the first true youth rebellion movies, according to the text
that the professor screened in class. It
was written by Buck Henry and Calder Willingham and directed by Mike
Nichols. The Graduate grossed $40
million at Box Office.
Moreover,
Mike Nichols won an Academic Awards as the best director for the Graduate and
also the Graduate was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best
Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography and also in the
Heat of the Night was a big Oscar Winner.
According
to the text screened in class, The Graduate is a modern expressionist film in which
the cuts and the camera movement are often obvious to viewer and have an innovative
use of sound and dialogue that connects one scene to another. In conclusion,
The Graduate film is a great film to enjoy watching it.
2) Find a related
article and summarize the content.
In the
article that I found, it talks about the background and the full story of the
Graduate film. Something that catches my
attention when I read this article was when the author of this article comment
that “One of the film's posters proclaimed the difficult coming-of-age for the
recent, aimless college graduate”:
“This is Benjamin. He's a
little worried about his future.”
This catch
my attention because I can imagine how Benjamin was feeling in relation with
what is going to happen with his life after Graduation.
In the
article also talks about the awards and nomination that the Graduate got and
about the actors and characters of the plot.
This is a good article to read.
3) Apply the article to the film screened in
class.
The article
is a compliment to the film screened in class because in the article, the
author explains everything what happen in the film and also he gives more
information about the film that makes the reader to watch this film. An example
of this is the comment that the author said which is that “The Graduate (1967) is
one of the key, ground-breaking films of the late 1960s, and helped to set in
motion a new era of film-making. The influential film is a biting satire/comedy
about a recent nebbish, East Coast college graduate who finds himself alienated
and adrift in the shifting, social and sexual mores of the 1960s, and
questioning the values of society (with its keyword "plastics").” And
saying this, I believe, there would be some people who are going to watch the
Graduate film because of the good review of the author of this article.
4) Write
a critical analysis of the film.
The
Graduate is a great film that every college student should watch. It is very entertained and also it is related
with people who graduate from college that do not know what to do in their life
after graduation. The director Mike
Nichols did a great job and he deserved to win all the awards that he
received. I can tell you that the
Graduate and the Gold Rush were the best films that I really enjoyed watching
them in comparison with the others film that I watched in this class.
