The Godfather

1)Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.

The Godfather is an American crime film that was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by Albert S. Ruddy in 1972 when it was released.  This film had 11 nominations in the Academic Awards in which the Godfather won 3 Awards as the Best Picture, the Best Actor (Marlon Brando) and the Best Adapted Screenplay.
According to the text screening in the class, in the Godfather shows the bad guys as an anti-hero’s, which means that the bad guys are really good guys and they “ root for them despite that they are criminals and murderers.” Also, in the film they show 23 murderers/deaths on screen.
The Godfather is one of the grossing films of all times, according to the text.

                2) Find a related article and summarize the content.

This article it talks about the background of the Godfather, the characters, and in the article the author compared the Godfather film with the Sopranos and Goodfellas saying that “Like "The Godfather," one of the most impressive aspects of "The Sopranos" was its richly detailed portrait of first- and second-generation Italian Americans, as seen through the experience of one extended family.” And it also said that “Though pop culture's fascination with the Mafia has undeniably fueled certain negative stereotypes about Italian Americans, acclaimed works like "The Godfather," "Goodfellas," and "The Sopranos" have also given many Italian Americans a sense of shared identity and experience.”

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class.
The article summarizes the content of the film screened in class in a way that the lector can understand the story of the film, which is The Godfather.  Also, in the article, the author said something that may be the person who watched the film did not know about, for example I did not know about a comment that the director of the Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola, said in an interview.  The comment that the director said was that “he saw "The Godfather" as a classic Shakespearean tale: the story of a king and his three sons.” And also, according to producer Robert Evans, “Coppola also made his Mafia story a metaphor for capitalism.”

4) Write a critical analysis of the film.
The Godfather is an American crime film that has a lot of nominations and 3 winners of the Academic Awards.  It shows anti-heroes as bad guys but they really were not bad guys.   In my opinion and I have to be honest, I did not like those types of films were they shows how they kill someone; for me is like scary movies, that I have to close my eyes to do not see when they shows when the assassin commit the crime. I am very emotional and imaginative so for this reason I did not like this kind of film, but  I recognize that the Godfather was very well made and they deserved all the awards and nominations that they received.
